What is adaptive riding?
Adaptive riding is a recreation based horsemanship experience designed with individualized adaptive strategies in mind. Participants will learn leading, horse handling, grooming, tacking, groundwork, riding, and other aspects of horse care. This program is tailored to each participant’s personal need and goals.
Do I need to have horse experience in order to sign up?
No, individuals of all experience levels are welcome at Freedom Reins!
Do riders wear helmets? Are they provided or should I buy a helmet?
Yes, all riders are required to wear ASTM/SEI-compliant helmets. There are helmets available to borrow; after the first month of lessons riders are required to provide their own approved helmet. (Exceptions apply to the Healing Hearts Program).
Can family and friends come watch?
Yes, but due to the nature of our services it is recommended to limit guests to close family or guardians. Please let us know in advance if you intend to bring outside guests.
Do you provide tuition assistance?
Healing Hearts Program
An income and situation based scholarship program for at-risk youth, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence. This scholarship is applicable to any program Freedom Reins Occupational Therapy, PLLC offers. Qualification and amount of financial assistance awarded is based on US Department of Housing and Urban Development standards taking into account family income, size, and other factors. This program allows Freedom Reins to offer services on a sliding scale based on eligibility. Contact Freedom Reins to begin the application process!
Are lessons and programs provided in all weather conditions?
Yes, with the exception of extreme temperatures or storms. Our program operates from Spring through Fall, with occasional services offered in the winter months. We will contact you in advance if your lesson or program is canceled due to weather.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept cash, check, PayPal, or Venmo.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancelations made within 24 hours of scheduled lesson will be charged the full lesson fee; fee shall be paid by the next lesson. Rescheduled lessons are to be made up within one week of the original lesson, unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties. Make-ups should be scheduled via your instructor. No-call/no-shows will be charged the full lesson fee and no make-up will be offered. After three no-call/no-shows, enrollment in programming will be reconsidered and a discussion to find a resolution will be had. Cancellations can be made via a phone call or text message.
What should you wear to your lesson?
Participants are required to wear long pants to prevent chaffing and closed toed boots (1-1.5 inch heel). Sandals, crocs, high heels, wedges, sneakers, uggs, Etc. are not permitted for students. Anyone coming into the barn or in close proximity to horses is required to wear close toed shoes. Recommended pants include jeans, breeches, and cotton leggings. Please dress for the weather as our programs run in all seasons.
Is there a weight limit to participate in mounted programming?
Yes, for the safety and well being of our horses and staff, there is a weight limit of 200 lbs to participated in mounted programming.
When should I arrive for my lesson or program session?
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your lesson or scheduled program. This ensures enough time for grooming and tacking your horse.
Our Facility
Our facility includes a safe and private environment for lessons and programming. We have an outdoor arena, round pen, handicap accessible mounting ramp, cross ties for grooming and an abundance of pasture space.
